Hello, I’m Abigail.
I’m studying Politics and Linguistics at Princeton University. I freelance edit, write, and tutor.
Why Words?
I believe that language is the greatest human invention. I am beyond fortunate to have the opportunity to study both artistic and structural components of language. I find it fascinating that individuals grapple with literature in their native language, as if it is foreign and incomprehensible. I enjoy reading and writing critical papers, specifically on Romantic poetry and twentieth century essays. While studying Linguistics, I analyze the structure of language, ranging from sound pattern to sentence composition. I am proficient in several foreign languages, namely Italian, Spanish, Russian, and Mandarin.
Classmates recognized my obsession with words and asked for writing guidance. I have edited speeches, essays, articles, and various other written works. I have also tutored high school students for examinations and offered guidance throughout the college application process.
My Educational Background
I graduated high school a year early with a 4.0 unweighted GPA. I was awarded highest honors and recognized in the top three percent of the graduating class.
I am a rising junior at Princeton University, pursuing a Politics concentration and a certificate in Linguistics. I was awarded the Class of 1883 English Prize for Academic Freshmen, which is “given to the freshman candidate for the Bachelor of Arts degree who writes the best essay or examination in English Studies for the academic year.”
Activities
I am a writer and editor for The Princeton Tory, a political publication. As the Deputy Clio Chair, I arranged public events broadly related to modern American politics, including dinner with a congressional candidate, mock debate nights, and an article discussion group. Before transitioning to virtual education, I worked for The Humanities Council to promote lectures and dinner events. In January, I was a coordinator for The David Project, a collaboration among the eight Ivy League Schools that convened for a two-day symposium during the March for Life. I managed a fifteen-thousand dollar budget to cater for over two hundred attendees. I also organized interstate transportation services and lodging.
How Can I Help You?
My strongest ability is copy editing, which consists of correcting errors in spelling, grammar, capitalization, and punctuation. I also offer stylistic comments on word choice and syntax.
I write articles, speeches, newsletters, and other materials.
I help high school students develop their application essays, specifically by critiquing the grammar and developing arguments. I tutor for ACT English and Reading, although this must currently be conducted virtually.
I charge hourly for all services. Usually, the amount of time I dedicate to each project reflects the word count. My rates begin at fifteen dollars per half hour.
Every school has different guidelines on academic collaboration. I am not personally responsible if you seek a degree of help that violates your institution’s honor code.
